How To Test A Soda Siphon or Seltzer Bottle For Leaks

There is an easy way to find any leaks in your seltzer bottle or soda siphon. We have complete instructions below. You may want to check for leaks if:
  • You notice water dripping from the siphon.
  • There is a puddle of water around the seltzer bottle after it sits for awhile.
  • You loose pressure in your siphon after a day or two.
  • There is very little or no pressure when you press the lever.

    5. Attach the head and charge the siphon with CO2 as usual.

    6. Using a brush or a spoon, cover the siphon head with soap bubbles. Fig. 3

If there are any leaks, the leaking gas will “blow bubbles” at the place where it is leaking. Notice the large bubble where the head meets the bottle in Fig. 4.

Be sure to put bubbles on the following areas: Fig. 5
#1 The top of the head
#2 Where the handle goes into the head
#3 The end of the spout
#4 Where the charger screws on

If there is a leak at #1 you need a new head.
If there is a leak at #2 you need a new head.
If there is a leak at #3 you need a new head.

The reason you need a new head is that the parts which need to be replaced are inside the head, you can not get to them, and they are not available.

If there is a leak at #4 you need a new head for ISI and Mr. Fizz siphons. For Liss siphons you probably need a new valve seal.

If there is a leak at #5, in general the head is not screwed on tight enough. You may also need a new tube seal (siphon tube washer).
