Drinking adequate water should be given the same priority as showering, brushing our teeth, etc. We need to drink half our body weight in pounds in ounces of water. An example, for a 150 pound individual, 75 ounces of water/day is required. Water is necessary for our body’s metabolism as our body tissues are made up of 75% water, our brain tissue, 85% water. Consuming the correct amount of water really aids in weight loss. Drinking 8-16 ounces of water 20 minutes before a meal is a great appetite suppressant. It also aids in digesting the meal you’re about to consume. This is where I believe Water Sensations® is key! By using Water Sensations, your water tastes great, enabling you to properly hydrate yourself. So drink up to have more energy and lose weight!

As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in a suburban high school for the last 20 years, I have seen first hand the emerging epidemic of obesity in our young adult population. I counsel students and staff with health issues affected by diet. Hydration is an essential component of a healthy diet, but all too often I see the student’s and staff’s consumption of sugary, high caloric drinks to quench their thirst instead of water.

Forget all the hype you’ve heard about those so-called sports drinks. Give your muscles WATER – nature’s original fuel for keeping your body working at top conditioning efficiency. Weight lifters especially need to remember to lift their water intake before, during and after their reps. I tell my clients to start drinking water 2-3 hours before exercise and drink another 8 oz. right before their routine. Without water their muscles quickly become dehydrated and their work-outs will not be as effective.
